With double the lube and an anti-friction blade design, these 5-blade cartridges from Gillette deliver much smoother results than other razors. Oh, and while we have ya, read up on groin grooming and body hair trimmers.

Plus 5 More Razors We Love
Somewhere in the “more is better” marketing blitz, we lost track of the fact that fewer blades yields better spacing when it comes to rinsing the razor, and preventing razor drag between strokes. These ones promise 30% more space between the blades than their closest competitors, and the disposable heads also have a precision edging blade at the top of the cartridge, as well as two aloe-packed lubricating strips to ensure results as soothing as they are smooth.
Merkur’s specialized safety razor is an ideal choice if you’re new to shaving and worried about slipping up—its short handle lends itself towards easy maneuverability, helping you keep mistakes to a bare minimum as you go.
You wouldn’t julienne your veggies using any old knife would you? Your face deserves the same consideration. It’s tough to beat Japanese stainless steel under any circumstances, but especially when it comes accented by a grippy resin handle and a spring-mounted blade.
It’s a common mistake to refer to a blade head as a razor; technically, the razor is either the handle or the entire handle and head (depending on whether or not the blades are loaded into the head, like with a safety razor, or altogether swappable, like cartridge blades). We digress: DSC has a variety of razor handles that fit its 4- and 6-blade razor heads, and it’s this no-slip body shaver handle that makes shower cleanups a cinch.
Bulldog’s no-frills grooming products have won it a legion of fans since the brand was founded in 2005. This handsome bamboo handle number comes with five tempered steel blades, all wrapped in recyclable packaging that reflects the brand’s commitment to sustainability.
What type of razor gives the closest shave?
The difference between most safety razor and cartridge razor results is nominal, assuming the blade is kept sharp and is replaced often. More important is that you choose a blade that suits your hair growth; someone with thick, coarse, and ingrown-prone hair will require fewer blades and will yield smoother (less painful) results with a safety razor. Any manual razor will leave you with a closer shave than even the best trimmer or electric razor.
Is a 3 or 5-blade razor better?
This is subjective, so it will vary from one person to the next. You can get a wicked clean shave from a single-blade safety razor (and one that prevents ingrown hairs at that), but multi-blade razors tend to be more comfortable because each blade is doing less work (albeit, your skin experiences more actual shaving, which might be irritating to sensitive skin types).
What razor should I use for my pubic hair?
Some brands like Gillette have issued designated pubic hair razors for this specific task. We also recommend investing in a groomer specifically designed for your nether regions, getting waxed, or just tidying up the old-fashioned way with some scissors.
Can I shave with an electric shaver or a beard trimmer?
An electric shaver and beard trimmer are both excellent ways to keep your whiskers in check, but beyond the scope of this article. Check out our guide to the best electric shavers if you’re blade-averse and the best beard trimmers if you don’t need to be so baby-faced.
